Seven Quick Takes Volume XXV

1. Last Sunday, I went shopping with my awesome mom and sister to find me some interview-appropriate clothes. Surprisingly, I managed to find a skirt/jacket combo, with a button-up shirt to go under it. Not too bad. And all on sale, too, so yay.

2. I applied for a job a week ago. To my rather great surprise, I got a call about it on Monday. Called back Tuesday morning, talked with the guy for a few minutes, and set up an interview for the next day (Wednesday).

3. The interview was up past Denver, in Golden. And while I would have loved to have gotten the job before that, seeing where it was made me want it a little bit more. Ok, fine, a LOT more. I so so so want to live in the mountains, and that's definitely in the mountains. And it'd be so much closer to Rocky Mountain NP, and to lots more great hikes than I'm currently near in Colorado Springs.

4. And then we interrupted the interview to go to Mass. They have a chapel there. There's not Mass every day right now, but several times a week, apparently. I'm a sucker for easy access to daily Mass.

5. Apparently once a month they do like a day of recollection thing with confession, adoration, spiritual direction, etc. Can you hear me geeking out yet?

6. Oh yeah, did I mention it's at a Catholic organization? And that I really, really, really want this job?

7. All that said, I'm trying really hard not to get my hopes up. It's difficult, because it seems so wonderful. But I'm not really that hopeful. I'm praying, and praying that God's will be done, and that if (as wouldn't surprise me) I don't get this job, I'll be able to handle it and trust that there's something else out there for me. (Although, what else there might be, I have no idea, but that's just the way it goes.) But...oh, pray pray pray for me! I can't imagine how great it could be if I do get this job. But, again, I'm trying not to be too hopeful. It's going to hurt a lot if I don't get it, I know that. Sigh. I wish I didn't want it so badly. I wish it didn't seem so fantastic, so perfect for me. Well, nothing I can do now. Just wait and pray.

Seven Quick Takes Volume XXIV

I haven't posted in two months, so I figure seven random thoughts ought to be good enough to start again.

1. I saw the midnight showing of Harry Potter last night. My first experience having to wait in a wrapped-around-the-huge-building line. (With the exception of movie #6, and #s 1-3 which I didn't see in the theaters at all, I've been to the midnight showing of all the movies. Somehow I never had to wait in a line like that.) It was a good 4+ hour wait, but thankfully they let us in at around 9 so we didn't have to stay outside too long (others in our group had shown up earlier so as to get better seats. And we got good seats). I got some knitting done beforehand, and I got to chat with one of my friends who was at the theater (we were going to be together, but I got my ticket before she did and my theater ran out before she got hers. Sad). All in all, thoroughly enjoyable, and the movie was flippin sweet. Excellent stuff, that. The part I was dreading the most (because it's the thing I hate most about the last book) was kind of glossed over, which made it less emotionally-impacting and I'm ok with that. And I love Neville. So so much. The end.

2. Still unemployed. Nothing to report there. At all. Quite disheartening, but whatever. I go through phases - sometimes I get really down about it, but sometimes I'm just like "Eh, something will come up one of these days." Of course, my rate of sending out applications/resumes has diminished as time goes on, which is quite counterproductive. Extremely, actually. But it's hard - getting told by Target that they don't want me really kinda made something die inside. (Not really. But sort of.) But on the plus side, I'm starting to do some volunteering with pro-life groups, so that's a plus. (And I just this morning got a job lead as a result, from one of the women in the group. Of course, this job lead really makes me laugh, and if I were to get it...well, let's just say God would certainly be having a laugh.)

3. So, what have I been doing with my life in the last two months? A lot of hiking and knitting. Managed to finish one baby blanket, and start and finish two more (the first was for no one, and I just started it back in March or April as a mindless knit to pick up now and then; the first I started and finished last month was supposed to be for a friend having a baby in August, but I ended up not liking how it looked with one of the colors I used so I started and finished a second that I'm a lot more happy with. So now I have quite a few random baby blankets I've knitted and never given to anyone. I should donate them like I was going to awhile ago). Have done two shawls this summer. Parts of two blankets, both of which have been more or less on hiatus while I did shawls and baby blankets. I like knitting, the end. Got new needles too this summer which are totally fab. And then the hiking. Other than last week, I've gone almost every week since I've been home. Haven't gone yet this week, though, and no plans to today or tomorrow, which is kind of a bummer. My hiking buddy went and got herself a job. I don't like hiking by myself. Must find new hiking buddy.

4. I really do love hiking, though. If I had stayed in DC this summer, I would have gainful (and more or less lucrative) employment, being able to work full-time and whatnot. But I would have been miserable. Not just the heat and humidity (oh, the humidity), but missing out on life here. So although I'm a different kind of miserable here, not having any clue what's going on with my life, what I'm supposed to be doing, stressing about paying student loans and having healthcare once I turn 26, being in Colorado is very good for my soul. And of course we can't forget the important thing - Nutmeg! I love my pup. And I've been more active in the last two months than I've probably been the entire last two years combined. I mean, many days I've gone for two walks a day (usually Palmer Park in the morning, where the dogs can run free - and where I've started to run, at least to an extent, and then a walk around the neighborhood in the evening, where the dogs can sometimes see a deer or fox. Or both, if we're lucky. Or unlucky, depending on how you look at it. Man, those dogs can pull!). I've been thrilled with how in shape I feel on some of the more strenuous hikes I've done. I may not look it, exactly, but I feel better, and that's a good thing. And hopefully Pikes Peak will be on the docket soon. Maybe even next weekend? Another benefit of being so much outside this summer is I have managed to get tan (for me, which means I look like a regular person in the winter) - and here's the real accomplishment - without any sunburns! Well, a few very minor sunburns. Particularly on my scalp, where my hair is parted. I'm quite proud of that feat. It really does help to use sunscreen! (There would have been at least one or two occasions in which I would have gotten pretty reddened had I not used sunscreen. Even if it was old, probably-expired sunscreen. So my shoulders are happy with me this summer.)

5. Also, my little brother will be coming home from Korea next month, and he'll have pretty much the whole month here which will be fantastic. And we'll probably be going camping, and I can't wait for that. I yearn to be in the mountains. They do something to me, and it's hard to explain but it's just...amazing. Also, it's a lot easier to see stars here than in DC, but one of the highlights of camping is being able to see the stars so much better than anywhere else. If there's one thing I hate about modern society, it's light pollution.

6. I'm running out of things to say. Did I mention how much I love my knitting needles? Hm, yes. And hiking? (Why can't THAT be a job? Professional hiker. Although, I'm not so into the whole backpacking thing, or death-defying hikes that involve rock climbing or things of that nature. If there were a professional hiker career, it'd probably involve those things. Maybe I should have been a park ranger. I was going to apply to work at a national park this summer and ended up not because, pathetic though it is, I just wanted to be back here with my family. And my pup. I probably couldn't have her with me if I were at a park. Alas.)

7. My nephews are super cute, and they're another big part about why it's awesome to be home. They're now 6 and 4 (!), and at a really fun stage. Well, probably more fun for me than for my sister who has to live with them all the time instead of in spurts of a couple hours here and there. But they're fun, and a lot more independent now, and conversant, and all that. Kids are great.

There. I blogged again. (I really kind of wish I could make all previous posts private or something and just start over...we'll see.)
